Sitework resumes at Dramatic Arts Building site beginning July 6

Yale is developing a new theatrical arts building at Crown and York Streets to bring faculty, staff, students, guest artists, and the public together in one facility.

Early work prepares the site for excavation and future foundation construction. Crews are modifying construction fencing, adjusting traffic and pedestrian routes on Crown and York Streets, installing geothermal boreholes, and drilled piles to support the excavation over the next several months.

What to expect
Beginning July 6, crews will be working on and around the site to prepare for sitework. Traffic, pedestrian, and parking conditions near the site may shift as work progresses. Signs will be posted to direct drivers and pedestrians. Work will take place during standard daytime business hours, is weather dependent, and weekend work is not anticipated for this phase.

Limiting impacts in the area
The project team has built several measures into this phase to reduce disruption, including:
  • Drilling piles, rather than being driven or hammered, to reduce noise and vibration.
  • Water use for dust control.
  • Installing noise-dampening Eco Barrier blankets inside the construction fencing to help absorb sound at the source.
  • Using flaggers and posted signage to support safe movement around the site.
