As part of a municipal construction project managed by and through the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA), there will be a road closure at Sachem Street between Hillhouse and Whitney Avenues beginning on Monday, July 14.
What this project is doing
This municipal project separates approximately 120 acres of stormwater from the city’s sanitary sewer system. It aims to improve roadway drainage, reduce rainwater flows to the sewage treatment plant, and increase capacity in the sewer system. The entire project includes work in the vicinity of Pearl, Lincoln, and Bradley Streets and has now advanced to Whitney Avenue and Sachem Street.
What to expect
Work will begin at the intersection of Whitney Avenue and Sachem Street and continue through mid-August 2025. The road between Hillhouse and Whitney Avenues will be fully closed, and detour routes will be clearly marked. Uniformed police officers and persons will direct traffic and assist pedestrians and cyclists. Please plan your travel in the area accordingly.
Temporary parking bans are required for this work. Bans are posted by the City of New Haven on the afternoon before the ban takes effect. Vehicles that remain will be towed at the owner’s expense. Please arrange to have your vehicle(s) moved during the parking ban.
We understand this may cause some inconvenience during the next month and appreciate your patience and understanding. Please note that this change is temporary, and we will continue to share updates as the GNHWPCA shares project progress.
