August 7, 2025
Following our recent work on Crown Street, we’re ready for the next phase of our Dramatic Arts Building project. Crews will shift the traffic pattern on York Street Monday, August 11 at 8 p.m., with street work completed by Tuesday, August 12 at 6 a.m.
What to expect
Monday night into Tuesday morning (August 11–12): The overnight work involves setting up jersey barriers and removing old painted street markings from both Crown and York Streets. We’ll be working during these nighttime hours because it is the only timeframe the City of New Haven approved for street work. Note that this work will be noisy at times, particularly the removal of street markings using a scraping method. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our neighbors.
Tuesday and Wednesday (August 12–13): During regular business hours, crews will continue preparing the construction site for the next phase of work. All work is weather dependent, and nothing is scheduled for weekends.

Traffic and parking impacts
The new jersey barriers along the west side of York Street (just north of the York and Crown intersection) will create a temporary sidewalk and shift two northbound travel lanes eastward.
What this means for you
- Street parking on York Street will be unavailable through fall 2025.
 - Yale Lot 83 (341 Crown Street) remains unavailable during this time.
 - Crown Street will return to its normal traffic pattern after the temporary shift at a future date.

What’s next
Starting Tuesday, August 13, the project team begins working on the buildings at 142, 146, and 148 York Street. This phase will continue through fall 2025 and includes:
- Heavy machinery for building demolition during standard business hours (Monday to Friday).
 - Sound blankets installed along the site fence to reduce noise.
 - Comprehensive safety measures including water misters, air quality monitors, and an onsite licensed industrial hygienist.

Once this work is complete and the site is stabilized, the York Street traffic lanes will shift back to their original configuration. We’ll share those dates well in advance.
We understand construction can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience as we work to minimize impacts to everyone in the area.
