The project team understands that demolition activity at Helen Hadley Hall (HHH) has raised questions about dust in the area. Find more information below about the steps being taken to safely manage and minimize dust throughout the project.
What we are doing
Dust control is a top priority for the project team. Demolition work is being conducted under close oversight to protect public health and safety. Multiple mitigation strategies are in place, including the use of industry-standard misters that spray water in two directions to suppress airborne particles. While the mist may appear to be dust from a distance, it is typically water vapor that evaporates shortly after settling.
In some cases, the mist may leave behind small amounts of residue that can be mistaken for dust. Air quality monitors have been installed around the site perimeter, and a licensed industrial hygienist is onsite, actively reviewing real-time data.
To date, no hazardous particulates have been detected in the air. Additionally, the building was fully abated of all hazardous materials prior to demolition, in full compliance with environmental regulations. Dust observed in the area does not contain hazardous substances.
The subcontractor has also taken responsive actions, including washing vehicles in Lot 39 and at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) that were affected on Thursday, June 26. Dust levels were noticeably lower on Friday, June 27, and Monday, June 30, and we expect continued improvement as work progresses.
