Enabling work at Osborn Memorial Laboratories (OML) began in earlier in 2025, marking the start of a comprehensive renovation. The project includes two new high-performance additions and a reconfiguration of space to improve internal circulation and connectivity between its Prospect and Sachem wings. It will also create state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, meeting rooms, and seminar spaces.
These enhancements aim to meet current code and programmatic needs while responsibly stewarding this heritage building, which first opened in 1913 , for future generations. Construction is expected to continue through summer 2027.
Considering campus life and our community
The renovation of OML is expected to impact the immediate area surrounding the building. Sidewalk and parking lane closures along Prospect and Sachem Streets may affect pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular flow. A logistics plan indicating the initial areas of construction at the project’s onset is available.
Pedestrian pathways
Pedestrians traveling along Sachem Street will be directed to walk on the south side of the street, near the Watson Center. While pedestrians traveling north on Prospect Street will have a secure pathway along the fence line. On the interior of Science Hill, pedestrians are encouraged to walk on existing pathways at Sachem’s Wood and north of Kroon Hall.
Cycle and automobile access
Cyclists and vehicles traveling along the fence line on Prospect and Sachem Streets will have a lane width that is standard for an urban road. Street parking in the immediate area will be partially impacted, with spaces remaining available beyond the fence line.
Construction traffic will flow into and out of the work area along Prospect and Sachem Streets in a single direction with a main gate where the two streets meet in front of OML. Flaggers will be dedicated to each gate opening into the construction area.
Access to the Science Hill Service Node remains open throughout construction.
Details may change as the project progresses. Stay tuned for updates.
