Following the message issued on May 1, the project team has more detail about the new temporary traffic pattern near the Helen Hadley Hall site. Initially, the plan did not include removing parking spots on the east side of Temple Street. However, the City of New Haven has required that pedestrian access be maintained on both sides of the street throughout the full length of Temple.
To meet this requirement and ensure pedestrian safety, the project team has shifted a pedestrian pathway into the road. As a result, one travel lane, and the parking spots on the east side of Temple Street are affected.
After careful consideration, the project team evaluated the impact of removing parking on both sides of the street versus reducing the number of travel lanes. It was determined that maintaining two travel lanes and limiting parking on both sides of the street would be the least disruptive option.

What to expect
Originally, the plan was to shift traffic and complete line striping along Temple Street around Sunday, June 15. A new date has been proposed.
In preparing the project site, shifting traffic and line striping are tentatively scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project team will begin mobilizing around 8:30 a.m. This day of the week was the only option provided for daytime work with a lesser impact to traffic anticipated.
Upon the demolition completion, and after the site is stabilized, traffic shifting and line striping will again take place on a future weekend day. The date for returning the street and public parking to its original configuration in the fall 2025 will be shared when it is known. All of this work is weather dependent.
We understand this may cause some inconvenience during the next several months and appreciate your patience and understanding. Please note that this change is temporary, and we will continue to share updates as the project progresses.
